Psalms 24 summary

This psalm is concerning the kingdom of Jesus Christ, I. His providential kingdom, by which he rules the world (Psa 24:1, Psa 24:2). II. The kingdom of his grace, by which he rules in his church. 1. Concerning the subjects of that kingdom; their character (Psa 24:4, Psa 24:6), their charter (Psa 24:5). 2. Concerning the King of that kingdom; and a summons to all to give him admission (Psa 24:7-10). It is supposed that the psalm was penned upon occasion of David's bringing up the ark to the place prepared for it, and that the intention of it was to lead the people above the pomp of external ceremonies to a holy life and faith in Christ, of whom the ark was a type. A psalm of David.

1. 1 A Psalm by David. The earth is the LORD’s, with its fullness; the world, and those who dwell in it.
2. 2 For he has founded it on the seas, and established it on the floods.
3. 3 Who may ascend to the LORD’s hill? Who may stand in his holy place?
4. 4 He who has clean hands and a pure heart; who has not lifted up his soul to falsehood, and has not sworn deceitfully.
5. 5 He shall receive a blessing from the LORD, righteousness from the God of his salvation.
6. 6 This is the generation of those who seek Him, who seek your face—even Jacob. Selah.
7. 7 Lift up your heads, you gates! Be lifted up, you everlasting doors, and the King of glory will come in.
8. 8 Who is the King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle.
9. 9 Lift up your heads, you gates; yes, lift them up, you everlasting doors, and the King of glory will come in.
10. 10 Who is this King of glory? The LORD of Armies is the King of glory! Selah.
