What the Bible says
What does the Bible say about honesty?
God never lies (Titus 1:2), and the ninth commandment forbids bearing false witness against our neighbour (Exodus 20:16). “Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord” (Proverbs 12:22), so believers, having put off the old self, are to put away falsehood and speak the truth with one another (Ephesians 4:25; Colossians 3:9-10), including honest weights and dealings in business (Proverbs 11:1).
