What the Bible says
What does the Bible say about joy?
Christian joy is not a mood that depends on circumstances but gladness in God himself: “in your presence there is fullness of joy” (Psalm 16:11), for our chief end is “to glorify God and to enjoy Him forever” (Baptist Catechism Q2). Joy is a fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22), can sit alongside sorrow and trial (James 1:2; Habakkuk 3:17-18), and is commanded: “Rejoice in the Lord always” (Philippians 4:4).
