What the Bible says

What does the Bible say about repentance?

Repentance unto life is a saving grace by which a sinner, seeing his sin and the mercy of God in Christ, turns from it to God with grief and hatred of it and with full purpose of new obedience (Baptist Catechism Q94). Jesus began his ministry calling, “repent and believe in the gospel” (Mark 1:15); godly grief produces repentance that leads to salvation (2 Corinthians 7:10), and there is joy in heaven over one sinner who repents (Luke 15:7).
